Introduction

Chile’s presentation at Expo Shanghai 2010 is the largest relationship-building operation ever undertaken by Chile, designed to give a major boost to its relationship with another country.

China, the most populous country in the world, cradle of millennial cultures and the third largest economy in the world, is already our most important trading partner. With a growing political presence and spectacular economic performance, China is expected to be one of the world’s central axes in this new century.

Chile’s Pavilion is the center of this relationship-building operation, which is aimed at making China one of our closest national allies and enabling Chileans to benefit from exchange with this country.

The Pavilion will have impacts in China as well as in Chile, and a full schedule of reciprocal visits and exchanges that will maintain these intense relations before, during and after the six months of Exposition.

Seminars, forums, competitions and extensive coverage in the media will ensure that the debate about cities, which is the central theme of the Expo, is also a significant topic of debate in Chile.
